Tech Tip: Banging your iPod fixes it!!

WARNING: This will probably void any valid warranty. Don't do this if you have a valid warranty.

Sad Paddy (broken iPod)

Before you're tempted to call bulls**t on this, it's pretty reliable. How reliable? I saw it done right in front of my eyes. At first I didn't believe this would work. I heard about a friend of a friend of a friend throwing his broken iPod in rage against a wall. It magically worked after that. Then he told the friend of a friend (who also had a broken iPod) just to bang it off of a desk. Again, the impact fixed the problem, the iPod worked again!

To finish off the story, I was discussing this story with my friends (Paddy). Surprise, surprise one of them had a broken iPod. Five minutes ago, literally he gave the iPod a bang off of the desk. And guess what, it worked!

If you've got a broken iPod, that is NOT under warranty, and doesn't work. Try giving it a bang off a desk (not too hard though, you don't want to smash it!!). So far it's worked! If it IS still under warranty, try getting it fixed before you send it back.

Anyway, the juicy stuff: bang the *side* of the broken iPod against a surface. Then test to see if it works!

End result: Happy Paddy!!

Feel free to leave comments (if it worked or otherwise)...

I saw this and said "why not? it's makin' me mad anyway." and tried it...now my ipod is actually working! I can't believe it! Thanks, so simple, yet I never thougt of it.

okay i completely thought this was bs. but i promise you its not--it just worked for me. it probably is resetting the hard drive head. . . makes me wish I hadn't 'recycled' mine for credit. . . i'd bet money this won't work for nanos. . . btw mine (a 20gb clickwheel one) was making this repetitive faint laser gun sound that would slowly fade and repeat ever 2 seconds (like the spinning up and down of a hard drive)

Interesting article. I really appreciate this article

Even I had that experience. I should have done the same, when my ipod battery was dead.

I just purchased new
ipod Battery
online from ipodbatterydepot.com and changed myself.

Now its working. lets try the next time.

One quick tap on the side of the ipod against my desk top and it is working again. Great, thank you for the advice.

My Ipod fell off the counter and then all the songs played like in fast forward mode. I searched for help in fixing it and came upon this website. All I can say is "THANK YOU!!!!". Your tip really paid off...After a couple of bangs on my desk, it plays like new!! THANKS SO-O-O MUCH!!

Maybe I'm just not banging it right... D:

This does work!
I found for best results bang on the bottom left corner. You might have to bang it a few times but it will spring back into life!

Word of warning though, I've had to do this about 4 times now in the past couple of years. Its easy to do but I can't see it being a lasting solution...
